In a courtesy call to Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, SUC President III of the Catanduanes State University (CatSU), the winning student team from the College of Business and Accountancy under Dean Esperanza P. San Juan, together with Prof. John Cyrus B. Francis, Director of Student Affairs, announced their feat in besting over 90 entries nationwide, in winning Fourth Place in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Youth Summit Student competition 2021 held on July 9, 2021.
The said program entry
titled, “Pagsupnit: Towards Digital Financial Transformation of Abaca Farmers
through 2021 and Beyond” was anchored on the three-pronged approaches;
digiKNOW, digiTECH and digiHUB and was conceptualized and created to promote an
innovative and sustainable financing ecosystem.

Cocjin, on behalf of the team members expressed their deep gratitude to
everyone who has helped them complete the three-day proposal writing process
and further mentioned that this current feat is for the institution as well as
for the abaca farmers who have made great contributions to the local economic
growth. “This is for you, Catanduanes State University and to all our abaca
farmers who tremendously contribute to our local economic growth yet digitally-
and financially-deprived.”
The other teams
garnered top awards in the competition included: University of the
Philippines-Diliman (1st place), University of the Philippines- Los Baños (2nd
place), University of Asia and Pacific(3rd place), Catanduanes State University
(4th place) & Ateneo de Manila University (5th place).
BSP Youth Summit Student competition 2021 with the theme “Ibangon natin ang ekonomiya, i-digital mo na!” is the first -ever student competition led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. It aims to promote the digital transformation of micro enterprises especially those in the rural areas and addresses top barriers to widespread adoption of digital financial services as observed in the BSP Financial Inclusion Survey 2019. #GZafe
