CatSU students selected as finalist in the BSP student competition

A group of five students from the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) has been selected as one of the five finalists to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Youth Summit Student Competition 2021.

In an official letter received last June 23, 3rd Year students Joal Cea Cocjin, Joriza Kate Zafe, Eunice Audrey Tendenilla, Jinky Tapel, Andrew L. Valatero, Jr. made it among 93 competing teams that submitted entries in the said competition. The team proposed “Pagsupnit: Towards Digital Financial Transformation of Abaca Farmers through 2021 and Beyond”. Mr. Ian V. Aranel, CBA Faculty Member, is the team’s coach for the competition.

The proposed program concept highlights the promotion of an innovative and sustainable financing ecosystem and is anchored on the three-pronged approaches; digiKNOW, digiTECH and digiHUB. DigiKNOW is a comprehensive and continuous digital financial literacy training and workshop for abaca farmes; Digitech, is an all-inclusive mobile application with various significant features that eases the transaction of doing business activities such as; product trading portal, and cash flow management to name a few; Lastly, DigiHUB, is a one-stop community electronic hub that will facilitate the interoperability of digital financing services primarily offered in digiTECH mobile application.

The theme for this year’s competition “Ibangon natin ang ekonomiya, i-digital mo na!”, aims to promote the digital transformation of micro enterprises especially those in the rural areas and addresses top barriers to widespread adoption of digital financial services as observed in the BSP Financial Inclusion Survey 2019. The top five finalists were screened based on the following criteria: 40% for action-ability, practicality, and ease of implementation, 20% for alignment with BSP objectives, policies, and regulations, 20% clarity, cohesion of proposal, and 10% for Innovativeness of prosed policy or program, while the remaining 10% for presentation/verbal communication skills were used to rank the finalists from 1st to 5th. Top 3 winners will make abridged presentations during the BSP Youth Summit on July 9, 2021. #JEPM
