Catanduanes State University (CatSU) will be celebrating its 50th Founding Anniversary on June 19, 2021. In relation to this, CatSU officials headed by OIC-President, Dr. Freddie T. Bernal has lined up various activities for this jubilee celebration that would make the event even more meaningful and memorable, not just for the CatSU community but also to all Catandunganons.
As the only public higher education institution (HEI) in the province, Catanduanes State University (CatSU), known then as Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC) by virtue of Republic Act No. 6341 authored by the late Catanduanes Congressman Jose M. Alberto, has always been the beacon of hope and dreams among Catanduanganons. The celebration has officially started on May 1 with the unveiling ceremony for the Countdown: 50 to 50 which indicates 50 days to the 50th anniversary celebration. The historic countdown likewise symbolizes the 50-year milestone of its journey as an academic institution that upholds the tradition of excellence in education and community development.
Among the activities and events connected to CatSU’s Golden Anniversary are the motorcade activity, the unveiling of the new symbolic landmark that represents the institutions overall stature, virtual contests, ribbon cutting for the golden exhibit, tree planting & unveiling of proposed alumni building/park, web conferences, seminar-workshops, family day and the thanksgiving night that will feature the university‘s contributions as well as its primary role in the island province. The culminating activity will be the Thanksgiving Night in recognition of the past presidents who were the pillars of the university’s successful growth.
To reflect the spirit of the 50th founding anniversary of the institution, it has made its university colors apparent in its main facade and in other lined-up activities. It could be noted that the Board of Regents approved the University Code in its Resolution No. 30 in 2017 prescribing the University seal and colors. Under Article 3, Section 2 of the same Resolution, the BOR unanimously approved that "the colors of the University shall be royal blue and golden yellow." For instance, the repainting of the main building with royal blue and golden yellow at the center and front grounds decorated with golden yellow flaglets. This is also in time for the golden anniversary of the Catanduanes State University.
All activities will be conducted while observing the health and safety protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF). Despite the limitations of covid-19 pandemic, CatSU is still set to celebrate the golden anniversary with utmost care and caution.
