CatSU receives grant from British council-CHED training program

The Catanduanes State University (CatSU) has been selected as a grantee-participant for the English-medium education and internationalization training under the โ€˜Access and Competitiveness through Internationalization of Higher Education (ACT-IHE)โ€™ Project.

Dr. Joseph G. Zafe, Director of the CatSU Center for International Relations and Continuing Professional Development Services (CIRCPDS), said that CatSU is among the 17 SUCs in the country and the only SUC in the Bicol Region to have been selected in the said project.

The ACT-IHE project is the new flagship program of the British Council in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education that aims to strengthen the quality of English as a medium of instruction (EME) in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), thus strengthening the internationalization-at-home strategies of the participating institutions.

The project will also include online teaching and mentoring component to build the capacity of HEIs to mainstream blended learning.

Through the English-medium education (EME) training, Philippine HEIs are expected to have a strengthened delivery of content in English which reinforces the internationalization-at-home agenda and become more competitive in the global setting, an improved human resource capacity in HEIs to mainstream blended learning, an increased capacity of HEIs to open its doors for internationalization activities, and increased quality and breadth of HEI strategies and activities in the Philippines.

The ACT-IHE project will run for 1.5 years with key project activities like UK-provided trainers to train 17 SUCs, cascade training of 17 SUCs to wider Philippine HEIs, training on internationalization, implementation of SUCsโ€™ internationalization strategies, and policy dialogues.
