Showing its full support, the
Catanduanes State University (CatSU) joined in the staging of this yearβs 6th
Abaca Festival spearheaded by the Provincial Local Government Unit of Catanduanes
on May 24- 28, 2022.
Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza
represented by Dr. Maria Edna R. IΓ±igo, Vice-President for Administrative and
Financial Affairs, Dr. Ramon Felipe A. Sarmiento, Vice-President for Research,
Extension and Production Affairs, Dr. Lily P. Custodio, Vice President for
Academic Affairs led the university contingent
during the fellowship parade which started 4:00 pm from the Plaza Rizal where
the CatSU participants donned their attire with a touch of abaca-related
headdress to showcase our world-class products.
The university's unparalled
support embarks on its research and development initiatives focusing on abaca
development amongst other programs. CatSU also takes pride in contributing in
the provinceβs abaca production initiatives through its Abaca Technology
Innovation Center (ATIC) headed by its Director, Prof. Abelisa V. Evangelista.
Some of the ATICS product like the Abaca wine is presented at the Capitol
grounds during the event. Likewise, CatSU also presented its knowledge posters
inside the Provincial Capitol which portrayed researches concerning abaca
production technology.
Also in support of the event are
the LGU officials, employees and stakeholders from provincial, national, and
civil society organizations in the province with their own touch of abaca.
Institutionalized by virtue of
Provincial Ordinance No. 21 in 2015, the Abaca festival celebrates not only the
importance of the abaca industry to the local economy and what it contributes
to national development, but it also represents the strength and resilence of
the Catandunganon people as one community.
Throughout history, Abaca has been regarded as a cultural treasure of
island province, a fiber that is both simple yet vibrant, reflecting what it is
to truly be a Catandunganon. It is worth to mention that Catanduanes is also
declared as the Philippines abaca capital for its biggest producer of
high-quality abaca fiber.
Anchored on the theme, βUswag, Abaca, Dagos sa Maogmang Isla," the event highlights the provinceβs main produce which is abaca - a representation of the island's pride and identity as a strong and united province pushing forward for progress. #πππππ
