Eleven volunteer organizations responded to the call dubbed as “SAVE THE WATERSHED TREE PLANTING PROGRAM” on March 5, 2022 conducted under the auspices of the Catanduanes State University Extension Services Office led by its Director, Dr. Adem Nalu V. Rubio.
The group went uphill on the mountainous trails of Sogod Tibgao Bliss in Virac, Catanduanes, traversing through the stretches of Hinagasan Falls in the said barangay.
The advocates went off with 50 Narra and 36 Dao Treelings planted on the site of the watershed area. By propagating these giant-growing trees, it can absorb tremendous amount of water for growth, thereby consuming water storm that is beneficial to the province as a favorite trail track of typhoons. These trees will then turn into big forest flourished with diverse living ecosystems that will provide clean air and other resources to name a few.
Dr. Adem Nalu V. Rubio extended his heartfelt appreciation to all the volunteers and encourage others to join the said movement. The event is said to be the third tree planting activity of the Extension Services since his assumption.
The volunteer groups during the event were composed of the following; Group of Environment Enthusiasts of Catanduanes Mountaineering and Outdoor Club, Inc (GREENCAT, Inc.), Sakat Mountains, Island’s Blood of VOlenteerism (IBV), DENR – PENRO Catanduanes, Catanduanes Enduro Club (CEC), Cathedral Catholic Youth Fellowship (CCYF), Catanduanes Biodiversity (CB), Isla Del Viento Eagles Club, Natures Life (NL), SK Council – Barangay Sogod Tibgao, CatSU Extension Services, and other individual volunteers.
The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office – LGU Virac provided the service vehicle in support to the volunteer groups. #JEPM
