CatSU employees were administered the first dose of Sinovac on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 held at the University Gymnasium after CatSU obtained the thumbs up of Department of Health as the first accredited Vaccination Center in the whole of Bicolโ€™s State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).

A total of 99 employees received the first jab, 97 of which are from the A3 vaccination priority list, 1 from A2 and 1 from A1. The registration promptly started at 8:00AM, and was very organized having a Counselling and Final Consent Area, the screening area, the vaccination area, and most importantly the Monitoring area.  A hand wash area was also available right before everything else.

โ€œIt was a success! Not even a downpour of rain can stop usโ€, said Dr. Felix Ma, CatSU Medical and Dental Services Physician when asked to describe the historical event. He also reminded everyone to avoid fake news, and rather listen only to health officials about the vaccineโ€™s safety.  Dr. Ma led the event together with his Team and Nurse-educators of the College of Health Sciences, the Medical and Dental Staff, Building and Grounds Services for the gym set up and hand wash area, Guidance, Counselling and Testing Office, Public Relations Office, and all other offices who helped in this undertaking.

Meanwhile, CatSU president Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza said that the target is to fully vaccinate the 15,000 employees and students, and more community members now that the CatSU vaccination center is already open to everyone, to help achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 in the island-province. He also encouraged everyone who still has doubts about the vaccine. โ€œKung bako kang bakunado, bako kang siguradoโ€ (โ€œif you donโ€™t get vaccinated, you are not ensuredโ€), he said.

Dr. Azanza and the entire CatSU management thanked the volunteer nurses especially Ms Millie Gianan, and volunteer physicians, Dr. Rojas, Dr. Abrina and Dr. Sorreda for the day's vaccination, and the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Red Cross-Catanduanes Chapter, Provincial governnent, Provincial Health Office, Eastern Bicol Medical Center (EBMC) , RHU Virac , Catanduanes Medical Society, Philippine Nurses Association-Catanduanes Chapter , 50 nurse educators and full-time nurses who were all part of the success in securing the DOHโ€™s approval of CatSU Vaccination center. He also thanked Governor Joseph Boboy Cua and Congressman-Regent Hector Sanchez for all the help extended for the Catandunganons.

The second dose is scheduled same time on September 14, 2021. For those who were previously vaccinated on July 27, 2021, second dose is set on August 24, 2021. #cvecilles
