The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Virac during its regular session on July 13, 2021 that was presided by Hon. Vice-Mayor, Arlene Arcilla, unanimously expressed its commendation to the newly appointed SUC President III of the Catanduanes State University (CatSU), Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza. The Vice-Mayor gave the legislative body’s plaque of commendation to Dr. Azanza while congratulating his feat in winning the 7th presidency of the province’s premier Public Higher Educational Institution (PHEI).
Dr. Azanza in his acceptance message before the Sangguniang Bayan members present in the session, thanked them in their warm accolade and moved on further to lay down before the august body his vision of HOPE for the University under his stewardship. Dr. Azanza won by an overwhelming majority of the voting Board of Regents (BOR) of CatSU who gave him a 96.8% rating in the election for presidency of CatSU last June 24, 2021. He was sworn to office that same day by the Honorable Dr. Aldrin Darilag, CatSU BOR Chairperson.
Coinciding with the University’s 50th founding anniversary this year, Dr. Azanza’s rise to the presidency of the institution is “God bestowed (with) sacred responsibility of leading the largest higher learning institution in the island province of Catanduanes towards its first century of glorious history. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the President told he is faced with the daunting challenge of putting the house of the University in order to make sure that we are able to adapt to the new normal, embracing online technology and innovating blended and modular learning given the present limitations in the province where internet connectivity and intermittent power supply are but part of our day-to-day social and economic realities.”
“We offer the Catanduanes State University to serve as the conscience of our province, as well as the knowledge center of our economy. We want to serve as a role model of efficient service and public governance in the island, as we endeavour to give HOPE to our happy island: H-onest service, O-utstanding and globally competitive educational standards, P-eople-centered and planet –friendly programs where social safety nets are in place and harmony with the ecosystem is considered sacred. And above all, we shall provide for E-qual opportunity and fair treatment to all, where meritocracy, qualifications and potentials are given premium, instead of patronage and kinship relations. Thus, CatSU under my administration shall serve as the HOPE of our Happy Island,” the President told the body.
